ISMETT 2

This expansive new 256-bed hospital in Sicily, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, will greatly expand specialized care and biomedical research in the region. The façade has been carefully designed to allow ample daylight, natural ventilation, and views to nature, while also moderating heat gains with fixed exterior shade elements and moderating light levels and glare control with interior motorized blinds for patient comfort.

The glazed façade systems include custom aluminum framed window walls and curtain walls, with custom designed exterior caps. The opaque façade systems include a unique rainscreen composed of extruded and glazed ceramic elements. The ceramic cladding features a prominent horizontal texture, which is serrated with curved edges in section. While most panels on the building are flat, single-curved panels with the same horizontal texture are also incorporated near the exterior soffit to seamlessly transition between the vertical ceramic cladding and horizontal soffit cladding.

BUROMILAN FAÇADE collaborated with RPBW during the Construction Documents and Bidding and Negotiation phases, including a value engineering study.
